I think that the Ivory Coast is similar to Chile from what we read in House of the Spirits. Both countries have had somewhat unstable political climates. In the Ivory Coast, spirits and masks seem to be very important to the people, and in House of the Spirits, spirits and magic were a major theme. Although this might not necessarily be true in the entire country. I think that certain practices regarding spirits and other rituals are probably more prevalent in Chile than in a country like the United States.
